It is five months since the death of four-year-old Nthabiseng Maphalle, but she has still not been buried.
Police are waiting for the results of a DNA analysis to determine if the burnt body found in the bushes three days after her disappearance was that of the young girl from the village of Mentz, outside Polokwane.
Nthabiseng had gone to a nearby spaza shop to buy a packet of crisps.
Jan Makgoba, a prime suspect in the murder, died two days after his arrest.
Her mother, Sibongile, 21, said: "This is pure injustice. We can't cope any longer.
"It will really be hard to spend the December holidays without burying her."
Senior Superintendent Motlafela Mojapelo said yesterday that the police were waiting for the results of the DNA tests.
"We are sympathetic but there nothing we can do until we get the DNA results."
