Steve "Principal" Pila, a prominent sports personality based in Polokwane, is set to join Kaizer Chiefs, one of South Africa's soccer powerhouses.

Sowetan has learnt that Pila is earmarked to handle administrative matters to ease the pressure on chairman Kaizer Motaung and manager Bobby Motaung.

Part of the job entails overseeing the construction of the club's new home stadium in Mogale City, in North West.

He will also supervise Chiefs' development programme where he will work closely with coaches such as Doctor Khumalo, Ryder Mofokeng and Ntsie Maphike.

Pila is reported to have been holding a series of meetings with Motaung and his son Bobby during the past five weeks regarding the job.

An efficient administrator, Pila has a Masters in Business Administration degree and is currently employed by the department of sports and recreation in Limpopo as a senior manager.

He could not be reached for comment, but sources close to the former Pretoria Callies and Mahwelereng Motherwells defender, said he will start his new job on December 1.

He is expected to resign from his post in Limpopo sometime this week.

Pila shot to prominence in soccer administration when he was appointed general manager of the Transnet Football School of Excellence in 1994.

The school has produced household names such as Nkosinathi Nhleko, Gabriel Mofokeng, Steven Pienaar, Dillon Sheppard, Shaun Potgieter, Andile Cele and Daine Klate.

Pila is a member of the development commitee of Safa.

He is also general secretary of the soccer committee of the United School Sports Association of South Africa.
