CAIRO - CS Sfaxien of Tunisia gained the advantage in their quest for a first ever African Champions League title as they held defending champions Al Ahli of Egypt to a 1-1 draw in the first leg of the final in Cairo on Sunday.

Joetex Frimpong's 53rd-minute goal gave the underrated visitors a vital away goal before the second leg of the final in Rades, near Tunis, on November 11.

The Ghana international, signed at the start of the Champions League campaign by the Tunisian provincial side, slid in unmarked at the back post to equalise early in the second half, steering home a speculative cross from fullback Fateh Gharbi.

It cancelled out the lead that Al Ahli enjoyed for much of the first half after Mohamed Aboutrika's free kick had floated past Sfaxien goalkeeper Ahmed Jaouchi and into the net.- Reuters
