Inconsistent Maritzburg United and SuperSport United shared the spoils when they played to a 1-all draw in the only Premier Soccer League match played this weekend.

As most teams were involved in the inaugural Telkom Cup, United and SuperSport had to play a catch-up game at Harry Gwala stadium in Pietermaritzburg on Saturday after their clash two months ago was postponed due to heavy rains.

The match got off to a poor start as both teams battled to string passes together, but SuperSport were the first to find their footing, with Katlego Mphela and Daine Klate giving United defenders a hard time when they were in possession.

Maritzburg United also offered threats of their own through Collen Zimba, Ibrahim Omotayo and Sandile Ndlovu. But it was Mphela who finally broke the ice for SuperSport with a beautiful header in the 23rd minute, when he rose above everyone to nod home Klate's cross from the left wing.

But Matsatsantsa a Pitori's joy was short-lived as Zimba equalised for United six minutes later. He scored via a stunning long-range shot after receiving a pass from Omotayo. He twisted and turned before lashing home a contender for goal of the season.

After the equaliser, both teams tried hard to get the winner, but poor finishing by strikers from both sides let them down. Mphela missed a golden opportunity to steal a late win, when he tried to chip goalkeeper Dejan Bogunovic instead of passing to the unmarked Teko Modise. Bogunovic touched the ball for a corner.

At the end a draw was a true reflection of this lukewarm match.
