Alexander Football Association intends approaching the various stakeholders to assist in developing the LM Taunyane Cup into a solid development tournament.

"It has the potential to become one of the best development soccer competitions in the country," said the association's president, Moss Selolo.

The LM Taunyane Cup started four years ago as an initiative of soccer personalities, including Irvin Khoza and Simon Selepe, to recognise the contribution of Dr Leepile Taunyane in the development of the beautiful game.

"In line with a call by the minister of sports [Makhenkesi Stofile] to honour our heroes and heroines, we thought Dr Taunyane should also be honoured," said Selolo.

"We are confident that having more tournaments of this nature will help in unearthing and developing more players for all our national teams."

At the tournament's finals at Altrek sports fields in Eastbank last weekend, Sheffield surprised all and sundry when they clinched all five titles.

Their under-12s beat Real Madrid 1-0, U-14s defeated Brazil 1-0, U-17s walloped Benfica 3-1, U-20s beat Five Special 2-1 and the club's seniors pipped Rangers 2-1 in the final.

Aubrey Sechoaro, co-director of Sheffield, said: "It's a dream come true, we have one of the best development soccer programmes.

"We will be celebrating our 21st anniversary on the first weekend of December where we will also reward the best players and officials ofthis year.

"Credit to all our coaches for a job well done."
