Zambians restore their dented pride

Zambia was the place to be last weekend as the country's football pride was restored with Chipolopolo lifting the Cosafa Castle Cup.

As if that was not enough, the under-20 side also triumphed against South Africa's Amajita in a 2007 Africa Youth Championships qualifier in a second leg game at home to bundle Style Phumo's boys out of the tournament.

The highlights of Zambia's great achievements and action from other leagues and under-20 qualifiers from around the continent will be shown on the African Soccer Television Show on SABC 1 Sport's Laduma programme on Sunday.

Chipolopolo dusted themselves off after the embarrassment inflicted by Bafana Bafana in a Ghana 2008 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier recently to blast Angola 2-0 in the Cosafa Cup final. The under-20 side qualified for the Africa Youth Championships finals in Congo Brazzaville in January.

Other highlights are those of the under-20 qualifiers between Cameroon and Malawi, which saw the junior Flames being extinguished.

Burkina Faso went through 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 aggregate scoreline against Ghana.

The league game between Botswana's Flamingo Santos and Centre Chiefs, in which the latter lost 3-0, and the midweek Castle Premiership action between Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United complete the programme, much to the Ghost's woes. Viewers also stand to win great prizes on the show.
