Education Minister Naledi Pandor launched the National Institute for Higher Education in Mpumalanga at the weekend.

Education Minister Naledi Pandor launched the National Institute for Higher Education in Mpumalanga at the weekend.

The institute will audit the courses offered by Mpumalanga's academic institutions.

"The audits will begin aligning the provision of higher education programmes with the needs of the region and eliminating unnecessary duplication," said Pandor.

"For example, in education, there will be an agreement with a single institution [that it] offer qualifications, which might [include] advanced certificates in education, with several specialist options."

The institute will administer the University of Pretoria, the Tshwane University of Technology, Vaal University and the University of South Africa, which operate in the province. - Alfred Moselakgomo
