Kay Skelton, 35, was found in contempt of court by a judge in the North Island city of Hamilton, where the boy was alleged to have been kidnapped from the public library in August.
The boy's father, Chris Jones, had legal custody of his son at the time.
Police have been looking for Dick Headley, 68, Skelton's father and the grandfather of Jayden Headley. They have filed kidnapping charges against him and his daughter.
Judge Paul Heath had ordered Skelton and her family to bring the boy to court or face the consequences.
