Rage against the pandemic

A number of local artists and top radio DJs have been brave and taken public HIV-Aids tests.

These include Tshidi of Malaika, Hip Hop Pantsula, Prokid, Stoan of Bongo Maffin, Metro FM's Glen Lewis, Fresh and Gareth Cliff from 5FM.

This plausible and bold move is part of Levi's® Red for Life campaign called "Work It Out for Yourself". Teaming up with New Start, the aim of the campaign is to tackle the HIV-AIDS pandemic's first-branded voluntary counseling and testing campaign.

These personalities and the clothing label brand are holding public testing events to encourage people to get tested - the last one at The Zone in Rosebank. The public tests will culminate in a live concert featuring top music acts at Newtown Precinct Park and Bassline on Saturday, October 28.

Top names appearing at the event called Levi's® Rage for the Revolution include HHP, Malaika, Bongo Maffin, Tuks, Unathi, Optical Illusions, 340ml and Prokid.

All artists performing at the event have been encouraged to get tested in the programme and any member of the public who gets tested during this period will be offered a free ticket to the gig. This drive with a focus on getting tested and knowing your HIV status, aims to actively empower the youth and get them to understand that their future is in their hands.

By agreeing to appear on the bill, all the artists have taken the responsibility of being role models for the campaign.

The artists have also been provided with all the facts and figures surrounding South Africa's HIV-Aids status, and they will interpret these into personalised messages for the audience at the concert, using their influence to inspire, motivate and educate.

Tickets for Rage For The Revolution concert are R50 at Computicket, at the gate or at any of the Levi's® stores. For more information visit www.levis.co.za or tune on to 5FM and Metro FM. Sowetan and Levi's® are giving away 10 double tickets to the concert.
