'Porn together' - the new form of modern 'monogamy'

The consumption of porn plays a large role in sexual liberation, with more than 82% of females and 74% of males admitting to watching porn with their affair partners, compared to only 21% and 32% respectively with their spouses.

In a South African court room, Cause for Justice, Doctors for Life, and the Justice Alliance of SA began challenging ICASA’s decision to grant a licence to air Playboy TV, Desire TV, and Private Spice (rebranded as the Brazzers channel). ICASA claims Porn TV is a 'criminal offence'.

There are many so-called  'porn offenders' lurking amongst us.

More than 91 000 South Africans make use of Pornhub, the worlds biggest porn site.  To add insult to injury, South African’s spend more time than any other nation in the world, viewing 7.5 pages and spending 10min 35sec per visit. That’s 1min 39sec more than the worldwide average of 8min 56seconds!

Based on this, the infamous dating site for married individuals, AshleyMadison.com, conducted one of the largest global sex survey’s, with over 74,000 global members and just under 2000 adulterous South Africans responding. The outcome was unanimous; everyone, everywhere is watching more porn!

.

It's no wonder a porn film is made every 30seconds in the Unites States, this is BIG business.

The report uncovered findings around the consumption of porn, revealing that it plays a large role in sexual liberation, with more than 82% of females and 74% of males admitting to watching porn with their affair partners, compared to only 21% and 32% respectively with their spouses.

BUT does viewing porn lead people to stray?  According to South African Sexologist, couple & sex therapist, Dr. Eve, this myth can be dispelled.

“Watching porn alone does not lead to cheating, this is just not true. What is true is that men and women are viewing porn regularly, and the majority of people don’t feel it is cheating on their partner”, says Dr. Eve.

“Men and women turn to porn for similar reasons, they are aroused and seek porn as a means to satisfy their horniness, they do it out of boredom, huge curiosity and need for sexual variety”.

76% of men and 80% of women from ages 18- 55+ do not consider viewing porn alone as cheating, and these are people who, despite being signed up on a dating site, rate themselves in relationships that are ‘good enough to stay in’.

On average across all age groups only 22% of people say porn increased their desire to take their on-line chats offline.

‘Amateur porn’ is the porn of choice for men across all ages, however, ‘same sex’, ‘variety’ and ‘kinky/fetish’ porn came out 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively for woman, deconstructing myths surrounding female sexuality.

“Porn allows woman to act out fantasies that normally they would feel ashamed to suggest to their partner, they have been conditioned to ‘behave’ in an acceptable manner, and porn gives them the freedom to explore in a safe environment without being judged, “says Dr. Eve.

“Infidelity will save the modern marriage,” says Noel Biderman, CEO and Founder of AshleyMadison.com.

“72% of the female respondents and 66% of male respondents felt their affair has had a positive impact on their marriage, and if watching porn spices up their sex lives and channels their libido, then it can definitely be the new form of ‘modern monogamy.”

AshleyMadison.com currently has more than 27 million members in 38 countries with 220 000 South African members.
