CONFESSION BOX: Pregnancy has affected my kid

My partner and I have been together for two years and he has been living with me for the past year.

I also have a daughter aged 14 who lives with us. Considering some of the problems I hear other people go through with their teenagers, she is a very good child.

She has a good relationship with my partner and he treats her as if he is her father. She has no contact with her biological father.

My partner and I have just found out that I am pregnant and we are over the moon. The problem started when we shared the news with my daughter. It was certainly not the response I expected. She was so angry and cried her heart out. She has now started acting up, being cheeky and not wanting to talk to either of us. I love her with all my heart but I am running out of patience. This should be a happy, exciting time for all of us but she is ruining it. Please help.

Distressed

I can understand how disappointed you are with your daughter's reaction to your news.

However, you must understand that she is young and at a rather difficult stage. She has always been the only child in the home.

She probably feels as if she is unwanted and being pushed aside for the new baby and is understandably angry about the situation. You two need to have a talk with her and acknowledge her feelings. Good luck.
