'Femininity Fair' to raise Breast Cancer awareness
According to Cancer Association of South Africa breast cancer is the most common cancer among South African women.
In an effort to help with early detection and also curb the scourge Geness Foundation will be hosting the inaugural “Femininity Fair”.
Led by Dr Sheena Geness foundation supports and establishes projects that respond to the critical development needs of humanity in the arena of Health, Education, Entrepreneurship and Sport in Africa.
The Fair is themed “Allowing Ladies to celebrate womanhood” will host over 200 guests, to celebrate among the other things, a health initiative that will create awareness of breast cancer, allow ladies to celebrate womanhood, give women nutritional and beauty tips to enhance longevity, educate women about oral contraceptive use, and explain hormone replacement treatment and breast cancer.
The “Femininity Fair’ aims to empower women to look after their health and well-being. The event will help create heightened awareness and provides women with a holistic approach to their health.
Dr Sheena Geness is passionate about contributing to less fortunate communities and firmly believes in the practice of supporting those individuals who are not in a position to assist themselves.
"This conference will serve as an excellent platform to address breast cancer and ultimately support government health care initiatives,” she says.
Proceeds of from the fair will be donated to the Helen Joseph Breast Cancer Care Centre in Johannesburg.
The centre is a breast care facility in Johannesburg which promotes affordable care to patients with breast pathology at a provincial level.
The centre provides a multidisciplinary, education orientated approach boasting high patient care with excellent reputation of service delivery.
Keynote speakers at the event will include Dr Carol Benn, a leading breast surgeon and head of Helen Joseph Breast Clinic, Dr Marisse Venter, plastic and reconstructive surgeon and Gina Myers, a celebrity and national Elizabeth Arden makeup artist.
Celebrities who are expected to grace the Fair at the Venue at Melrose Arch include Zuraida Jardine, Lee-Ann Liebenberg, Joanne Ramagoashi -Madibeng and actress Sonia Sedibe.
October is international breast cancer awareness month.
