Great faces going places

Sowetan rounds up the most educated female celebrities in town

THEY have it all. Glittering careers, good looks and cash. But have you ever thought of what they have studied and how they graduated?

Moshidi Motshegwa

Motshegwa, who plays the crazy Naomi in Rhythm City, is a smarty in real life. She must be one of the most educated celebrities in South Africa. She is the holder of an honours degree in literature from the University of the Witwatersrand and is currently doing her masters studies in literature.

Katlego Danke

Best known as Dineo Mashaba on Generations, Danke is famous for playing a flippant, very easy, bed-hopping woman.

In real life she's anything but stupid. Danke obtained her BA degree in theatre and performing from the University of Cape Town.

Uyanda Mbuli

Fashionistas take note. There is more to Mbuli than just being a red carpet walker. The former beauty queen and businesswoman is said to have been a nerd of note in her student days. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Western Cape.

Sonia Booth

Booth must be the ultimate triple threat: beautiful, successful and well-educated. Hard to believe, but totally true. This footballer's wife has a BCom degree in marketing and business management from Damelin. The model had to juggle her studies and was the first person in her family to get a degree.

Kgomotso Christopher

Most people revere Christopher as the epitome of beauty, brains and talent. She plays Katlego in Isidingo and has a gorgeous face and brains to match. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Cape Town and upon graduation was awarded the Jules Kramer Award for Fine Arts. She also obtained an MFA at Columbia University in New York.

Unathi Nkayi

Nkayi is a singer, an Idols judge and radio jockey. On top of that she is a mother of two and a wife. The multi-talented Nkayi has a degree in journalism and drama from Rhodes University.

Tina Mkwaiwa

She has had physical fights with former lover Oscar Mdlongwa. Not exactly the behavior you might expect from someone who has a Bachelor of Commerce degree in marketing and finance.

Believe it or not, the controversial Afro-pop star has it and has worked previously as a financial adviser for a huge funding organisation.

Judith Sephuma

The jazz and Afro-soul singer went to the University of Cape Town. She has a diploma in jazz and an honours degree in jazz performance.

Sinazo Yolwa

TV presenter Sinazo Yolwa is blessed with intelligence and a drool-worthy face. She has a Bachelor of Commerce degree majoring in accounting from the University of Cape Town. She is the first beneficiary of the UCT Association of Black Alumni Bursary Fund.

Bokang Montjane

There is more to Montjane than an aesthetic angle. The former Miss SA has a diploma in public relations management from the University of Johannesburg. johnz@sowetan.co.za
