MASTERPIECE? Nandipha Mntambo's work comes to Joburg Art Fair.

THE art community will once again celebrate the skills of top African contemporary artists at the the FNB Joburg Art Fair.

For the past three years the fair took place in April, but this time around it has been moved to September.

The fourth fair is taking place from September 23 to 25.

Artlogic director Ross Douglas says: "By moving the fair to September we hope to contribute to what is becoming an art season in the city."

The Joburg Fair will also offer various special projects that promise to present new and regular visitors with an art extravaganza.

About 23 galleries will be showcasing the work by their artists; some old favourites and some newcomers on the scene.

Some of South Africa's top wine estates and Mastrantonio Food Services have been added to enhance the standard of the show.

This year art lovers will see the launch of the FNB Art Prize.

"It is long overdue that we give our artists the financial recognition due to them. We hope all artists will see this as our endorsement of their valued contribution to our cultural fabric," FNB chief marketing officer Bernice Samuels said.

Participating galleries have been asked to submit an artist and the panel of judges have chosen the finalists whose work will be displayed inside the fair.

The finalists for the 2011 FNB Art Prize winner will be be announced on September 22. The winner will walk away with R100000 cash. Market Photo Workshop will showcase the work of local and internationally renowned photographers as well as work by students and alumni.
