That's a wing flying our nation high above the skies,
A doctor's scalpel keeping our society forever cleansed of all malaise,
A taller than a tall order against all to whom probity was the devil incarnate.
We are so much the poorest,
You are leaving behind our guitar struggling a fine tune (to) maintain,
You are joining the serenading melody of Sisulus, First, Tambos, Haroon, Fischer, Biko,
That constellation of stars, that galaxy of braves that moved mountains for our now's joy,
Whose selflessness continue to birth our better morrow.
Rest in peace, you soldier of our peace,
You, Kadre of our liberation!

This poem by creative artist Morakabe "Raks" Seakhoa honours the late former environmental affairs and forestry and education minister Kader Asmal.
Seakhoa is also a director of wRite Associates, who organise the South African Literary Awards for the Department of Arts and Culture, National Arts Council, SABC, Nutrend Publishers and Sowetan.
