Walking to raise money for cancer

TV stars join the fight against cancer

TELEVISION personalities will join the public for the fourth Angels Walk for Cancer Campaign.

The annual walk takes place in Johannesburg on August 7 and in Cape Town later in the year, to raise awareness of and funds for cancer.

Supported by e.tv and Weet-Bix, famous ambassadors are Joyce Skefu, Nthati Moshesh, Keabetswe Motsilanyane, Iman Rappetti, Sindi Mabe, Joel Zuma, Dawn Methews, Lorcia Cooper, Lance Witten and Andrew Barnes.

The initiative was founded by Urban Angel in 2008.

Scandal actress Moshesh said: "It is humbling to be part of such a worthy initiative. My involvement is very personal. My cousin died of cancer and I have also portrayed a woman who had breast cancer in the drama series Home Affairs.

"Every year I also play golf to raise funds for cancer. Many black women have breast cancer. There are still myths about cancer. Joyce and I have offered to do road shows because people need to know more about cancer," Moshesh said.

The funds that will be raised this year will be used to buy Broviacs Catheters for children's oncology wards in government hospitals.

e.tv's head of marketing communication and CSI, Michelle Kirby, said: "e.tv is proud to be associated with Angels Walking for Cancer.

"We are concerned about the increasing rate of children affected by cancer and that very few of them can afford proper treatment," she said.

Weet-Bix brand manager Khosi Ngema said: "We have been in partnership with the Cancer Association in the fight against cancer since 2009 and also to educate the public on the benefits of living a healthy, balanced lifestyle, to reduce the risk of cancer."

The Angels Walk for Cancer will take place at the Johannesburg Zoo. Adults pay R80 and children under 15 pay R40. For more info, contact Anina at Anina.Nortje@etv.co.za
