KG takes a leap to top management

ONE of the most seasoned radio personalities, Kgomotso "KG" Moeketsi, has landed a top management job at the Media Diversity and Development Agency to manage the chief executive's office.

She assumed her duties last week at the agency, charged with the crucial responsibility of diversifying the ownership of the media, a sort of birthday gift since she is turning 40 next month.

Moeketsi, a top radio DJ who has worked for some of the leading radio stations in the country, including Kaya FM and P4, and currently has a talk show on Radio 2000, was over the moon when she spoke to Sowetan.

"I have never entertained the notion that radio DJs are just airheads with no ambitions and ability beyond presenting," she said.

"I have always been interested in issues of media ownership and diversity, and this job offers me exactly that opportunity to play a role in media development.

"It has always been my passion to grow the media industry and I have always worked to polish my skills in management such as when I worked at SABC3 and as a radio programmes manager (at P4)."

KG keeps her radio talk show on Radio 2000.

Highly regarded as one of the most creative minds on the South African radio-media landscape, Moeketsi brings to the agency a wealth of experience from commercial radio and TV, and experience of the public broadcast space as well.

She also spent two years working the strategic post of project manager: programming for SABC3, according to the agency in a statement which also announced the appointment of advertising expert Nkopane Maphiri as project director in charge of community radio.
