The parents of musician Babes Wodumo real name Bongekile Simelane held a short conference in Durban on Tuesday to thank South Africans for the overwhelming support that their daughter has received.

The ‘Wololo’ hit maker was not present as she was reportedly unwell. Babes was on Sunday seen on an Instagram live video – which was later deleted – being assaulted both physically and verbally by her long time boyfriend Mampintsha.

Thokozile and Welcome Simelane looked sombre as they arrived an hour late for the scheduled conference.

“Firstly we want to thank the broader South African community, political leaders of various political parties, artists, the media and all South Africans for the support given to our daughter at this time of our desperate need,” said her father.

He reiterated that Babes has opened a case against Mampintsha at the Westville Police Station in KwaZulu Natal.

“The matter was formally reported to the police at Westville and we hope it will be attended in a proper manner. We wish you all to appreciate that since the matter has been handed over to the police it becomes critical to give them an opportunity to do a proper investigation,” he said.

Simelane added that his daughter’s company Eyodumo Entertainment will continue operating and that she will be continuing with her charity work for disadvantaged people.
