Double blow for HHP's son as he loses his mom Lerato Khanye

Rapper Jabulani “HHP” Tsambo was laid to rest on Saturday November 3 2018 in Mmabatho, Mahikeng, in an emotional send-off.

Tragedy has struck HHP's son twice within a month. Yesterday he lost his mother, Lerato Khanye, barely four weeks after burying his superstar father.

Khanye died of natural causes at Helen Joseph Hospital in Johannesburg yesterday morning. She and HHP met while studying at a college and had a son, Leano, now 14.

Family spokesperson Nkululeko Ncana confirmed Khanye's death.

Ncana could not answer further questions, only requesting that the Khanye family be afforded privacy during this period.

Sowetan understands that Khanye took ill a week ago and was admitted to Helen Joseph.

HHP died on October 24 after committing suicide at his house in Randpark Ridge, Johannesburg.

He was buried in Mahikeng, North West, on November 3. Speaking to Sowetan shortly after HHP's death, Khanye revealed that the family was still trying to deal with the grief.

Khanye said that Leano had been struggling to sleep ever since his father's death.

A family friend who spoke on condition of anonymity revealed that Khanye's death came as shock to the family and her friends. It came a week after HHP's will was read out. The star left everything to Leano.

The source said the two spoke over a week ago, and Khanye never complained about health issues. According to the source, the son had not returned to school since the death of HHP.

He was still being counselled.

HHP's death was marred by an ugly squabble that ended up in courts when his customary wife Lerato Sengadi demanded to be involved in funeral arrangements after his family excluded her.

And then after his burial Sengadi allegedly threw Leano's belongings out of HHP's house.DJ Cleo, who was a friend of both Khanye and HHP, said Khanye's death was sudden. Cleo met Khanye when HHP was starting out in the music industry.

"For many years I did not see her until recently after HHP's death.

Lerato was a soft-spoken and free-spirited human being. She loved Jabu genuinely. My heart goes out to the child," Cleo said.

Details of the funeral will be communicated later this week.
