Hip-hop star Prokid, real name Linda Mkhize, will be buried at the Heroes Acre in Westpark Cemetery on Sunday alongside other music stars including Robbie Malinga and Mandoza.

The Gauteng provincial government is helping the family prepare a proper send-off for the star.

MEC for community safety Faith Mazibuko said the provincial government was negotiating with the University of Johannesburg's Soweto campus to hold the rapper's funeral service on campus.

"They are still checking if they don't have bookings," said Mazibuko.

"We will be celebrating his life. He contributed, he was not just born, lived and died. We are here to assist, the family is in charge. We are here to close the gaps."

Mazibuko and arts and culture minister Nathi Mthethwa visited Prokid's family in Jabulani, Soweto on Monday.

The Danki San hitmaker died on Wednesday night at a girlfriend's flat in the Joburg CBD.
