Singer Busisiwe "Cici" Thwala can breathe a sigh of relief after she was found not guilty of assault charges instituted against her.

The judgment was delivered this afternoon at the Midrand Magistrate's Court.

Kwaito king and businessman Arthur Mafokate, who was not present at today’s court proceedings, had laid charges against his ex-girlfriend singer Busisiwe "Cici" Thwala.

Mafokate had laid a counter charge of assault against Cici, alleging that she hit him with a coat hanger and a steel chair and bit his arms during a scuffle.

This is after the singer took him to court over charges of assault, accusing him of injuring her when she was allegedly dragged by his car.

“We are happy that the court finally found that she was not guilty for the charges which were fabricated ...,” the singer’s lawyer William Sekgatja said outside court.

He also added that the victory was not only for Cici, but also other victims of abuse who went through similar situations.

Themba Masango secretary general of #NotInMyName movement had this to say on the matter: "We obviously feel vindicated that Cici has been found not guilty. Arthur Mafokate was clearly lying in regards to what happened on the day."
