US singer ready to take fans on a musical journey down memory lane.

R&B and soul diva Karyn White, who is famous for hits such as I’d Rather Be Alone and Make Him Do Right, is in South Africa for a three-legged tour.

The tour starts on Friday at the Big Top Arena at Carnival City, Gauteng.

On Saturday, she moves to the GrandWest Arena in Cape Town before wrapping up the tour at Port Elizabeth’s Boardwalk Casino on August 4. She will be supported by local stars such as Unathi and Sasha-Lee Davids.

White was interviewed this week on Radio 2000, on David Mashabela’s Kings & Queens show.

The star reminisced about how she got into the music industry, and spoke about the people who had played a major role in her career.

She said she was excited to be back in South Africa, and urged her local fans to attend her concerts because she loved being an entertainer.

“I just love people, and I get my energy from the audience,” she said. “I am looking forward to the shows. I am probably going to cry when I perform because you guys have supported me throughout my career.”

The evergreen singer has promised to perform hits such as Hungah, Romantic, Love Saw It, and I’d Rather Be Alone.

She also revealed she was forced to take a 17-year break to deal with her divorce from husband Terry Lewis and her mother’s death from cancer.

“I had to step away to deal with the divorce, which was very painful. I had depression and I was not functioning at all,” she said.

White has released the film Gale & The Storm, based on her life, and a soundtrack titled Gale & The Storm: Bringing Back the Funk. The film, she said, is about a legendary funk singer who leaves the industry and the producer who tries to get her back into the game.
