Eritrean-Canadian model and philanthropist Grace Mahary will attend the 2018 Mbokodo Awards, founded by businesswoman Carol Bouwer.

Honouring female artists in the art, culture and entertainment fraternities, the awards will take place on August 25 at the International Convention Centre in Durban.

The 29-year-old beauty took the modelling world by storm on debut when she was booked as an exclusive to walk for French fashion brand Givenchy in 2012.

Since then her illustrious career has seen her work with international brands such as Balenciaga, Chanel, Dior, DKNY, Hugo Boss and Giorgio Armani. She has also graced the cover of Vogue, ELLE and Glamour. She has also been featured in the iconic Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.

She founded Project Tsehigh in 2015 to provide uninterrupted energy to impoverished communities around the world via renewable energy sources, starting in Eritrea, her parents' homeland.

Now in their seventh year, the Mbokodo Awards will also host the Women Empowerment Conference.

"Returning to August signals a determination to anchor the Mbokodo Awards in Women's Month and we are thrilled to take them to our third province since inception, KwaZulu-
Natal," said Bouwer.

The partnership with the province as well as the city of eThekwini brings an important layer of business development for women to the Mbokodo Awards.

"This year sees the introduction of a business conference as part of the prestigious Mbokodo Awards, to encourage women across all sectors to take advantage of opportunities available to advance their chosen craft - and build valuable networks," Bouwer said.

The conference takes place on August 24 and 25.

Among the speakers will be women in business, arts and those working in non-governmental organisations.
