The 40-year-old Kau, known for his spot-on Mandela impersonation said: "All my life I've done Nelson Mandela impersonations. But I think it was harder on that particular night, he wasn't at the show, but Zelda [la Grange] was. Then through her we got to meet him afterwards. We went to the foundation and we got to meet Nelson Mandela," he recalled.
Kau strongly feels that his life has always had a Mandela connection. After all, his daughter was born on 18 July 2012.
"My first DVD was filmed at the Mandela Stage at the Joburg Theatre 10 years ago. I turned 40 in April and I'm celebrating 20 years in comedy," he shared.
"I have been married for 10 years, my son turns 10 in December. So, obviously I talk a lot about my family life."
So what will Kau be doing for Mandela Day today?
"There is a children's home that we visit and my daughter's birthday parties have always been at that place. I like to take my DVDs and give them to people in the street," he said.

It is billed as the biggest comedy night of the year and it's all in the name of Nelson Mandela.
Nearly a decade after seven of SA's top comedians staged the 46664 It's No Joke show, they will reunite for the Nelson Mandela Centenary 2018: A Night to Remember Comedy Show on August 24, at the Teatro at Montecasino, in Fourways, Johannesburg.
The line-up includes Barry Hilton, Chris Forrest, David Kau, Marc Lottering, Nik Rabinowitz, Riaad Moosa and Tumi Morake. Whackhead Simpson will be the MC of the night, with all proceeds going to the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
"The timing is fantastic, especially with the Mandela's centenary. I'm celebrating 20 years in comedy, it is quite a feat. It's an honour to be in the line-up," Kau said.
