South African comedians Tumi Morake, Loyiso Gola, Loyiso Madinga and Riaad Moosa are jetting off to Canada later this month for a comedy special that will see them make an international mark.

They will fly the SA flag high having scored big with a comedy special for the world’s leading internet entertainment service Netflix.

The foursome has been selected among 47 comedians from 13 regions worldwide that will take part in a stand-up comedy event series set to premiere in 2019.

According to a statement released by the media services provider; each comedian will perform a half-hour stand-up special.

Some of the recording will be filmed at the upcoming Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal, while others are scheduled to be taped in Brazil, Mexico, India, Germany and The Netherlands. All episodes will be released at once.

The aforementioned local comedians will film their sets in Montreal between July 24 - July 29.

A name for the special will be announced at a later stage, but what we know for now is that the special will feature comedians diverse in style, gender, and ethnicity. It will tape in seven languages – French, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Dutch, German and English.

Morake’s involvement is billed as historic, as she is said to “become the first African female stand-up comedian to have her own set on Netflix.”

“Incredible things are happening and I am beyond grateful.  I’m putting my best foot forward and I am hoping to do my country proud,” Morake gushed in a statement.

Moosa also expressed his excitement: “I’m looking forward to returning back to Montreal to take part in the Just For Laughs festival.

“Netflix are taking comedy to a whole new level and even though I’ve been a part of several specials back home, I’m excited and honoured to be taking part in a series of this calibre,” he added.
