Afro-pop superstar Robbie Malinga is likely to become the latest artist to suffer the biggest embarrassment at the hands of the controversial South African Music Awards (Samas) committee.

The committee plans to disqualify Malinga's album titled Robbie Malinga, which was nominated in the Best Afro-pop Album category.

At issue is that the album did not meet the Samas nomination requirements as it comprises songs lifted from albums of various artists he produced.

The committee is expected to take a decision before the event is held at Sun City on May 26.

"It doesn't meet the prerequisite as such albums are, as per the set-out and standing rules, considered to be compilation albums. It is therefore supposed to be disqualified. It was not even supposed to have been nominated in the first place," said a Samas committee member who did not want to be named for fear of reprisal.
