Nyiko Bilankulu recently became one of the voices at Capricorn FM. The young radio star is the presenter of The Morning Grind on the Limpopo-based commercial radio station.

Bilankulu, who worked at TransAfrica Radio for six years, says part of the reason he made the transition to Capricorn FM was to grow and also reconnect with his roots, as his late father who passed away when he was five, originated from Malamulele in Limpopo.

“I did my first show this month. I think the listeners received me quite well; some of them knew me already because of my previous work. It’s a bigger platform and I enjoy the interactions,” he says.

Bilankulu, 27, went to Southview High in Lenasia, and later graduated with a marketing degree at the University of South Africa (Unisa).

The founder of a PR company called Lihle Media, which has worked with Vusi Nova, HHP and Nathi Mankayi, to name a few, is also in demand as a motivational speaker.

His other business interests include LN Multimedia, a company he founded with Liyanda Jele. It focuses on doing charitable initiatives to help those who are less fortunate.

Bilankulu cites media personality DJ Sbu as having played a big role in his career.

“I first met him at Urban Brew Studios. I followed his work and gigs. I started by selling Vandal T-shirts for him and then shadowed him when he worked on radio. He would give me advice when I needed it. The things I saw in him are the things I wanted to become.”

Bilankulu swells with a drive to succeed and provide for his family. “If you put your focus on what you want to do, you can achieve it”.
