Easter reunion billed to headline a night of magic

The Gospel According to Jazz show tonight will see a reunion of Joyous Celebration alumni

Musicians Thabo and his wife Nonhlahla Mdluli, Brenda Mtambo and Nokukhanya Dlamini, and rising gospel singer and songwriter Sicelo Moya headline this Easter special.

It will be a night of magic as various gospel classics are jazzed up with a new interpretation and some jazz standards are given a gospel treatment.

The Mdlulis, who met and got married at Joyous, will belt out tracks from The Love Worship Experience.

"I am looking forward to this," says Nonhlanhla. "Thabo and I have been working together for so long. We love music and met through music.

"We also worked with Mtambo and Dlamini back in the days of Joyous Celebration. So this will actually be an exciting reunion," says Nonhlanhla.

She adds that the audience can expect to sing along.

Mtambo will sing popular songs with an incorporation of Afro-jazz . She will also reveal some of her latest work.

"The songs will be a surprise - some will be from my new album So Much More .

"My songs are always inspirational, people want inspiration," she says.

Dlamini, who will take to the stage after Mtambo, has promised to take the audience down memory lane.

"We are also going to do songs that people know, we want to take them to church," she says.

The evening will boil down to an exquisite finale with a collaboration by Dlamini, the Mdlulis and Mtambo.

The show takes place tonight at the Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg.
