Dineo Ranaka had no plans of returning to radio when she took over the reins at Metro FM's The Front Row this week.

Ranaka said she was enjoying her Monday off when she received a call from the station offering her the plum role of replacing Bonang Matheba on the 10am to 12pm slot.

"They called me and I was actually shocked because I was not really aware of a lot of things that were happening; all I knew was that Glen Lewis joined Touch HD and that DJ Fresh had joined Metro FM. I had no idea Bonang had resigned," Ranaka said.

The reality television star said she asked for divine intervention.

"I went to the ladies room at Roco Mamas and said a short prayer after that call and I said 'God, if this is where you want me to go, please lead me'. I asked Him to show me the way."

Ranaka said the meeting between herself and Metro FM station management happened at the eatery in Randburg where she took the offer without hesitation.

"Usually when I get radio jobs I am hesitant taking them and ask for a day or so to think about it, but with this one I didn't even think twice. I just knew that I am in," she said.

Ranaka said her job was not to replace Matheba, who resigned shortly after her show on Monday, stating that she was not consulted on major changes on her show which included being paired with fellow radio anchor and television host Lerato Kganyago.

Ranaka said the relationship between her and Kganyago has been smooth so far.

"I love working with Lerato. She has so much energy and she is easy to work with and I think it's a beautiful thing that women can work so well and gel together. I think we are going to do a lot of great things together," Ranaka said.

The talented host was hailed by many listeners of the show as being a good addition to the popular slot as her years of experience on various radio stations such as YFM, 5FM and Cliff Central stood her in good stead.

Ranaka, who is also an executive producer at her production company Brains@Work which produces reality shows Dineo's Diary and The Ranakas on Mzansi Magic, said she was not going to abandon her duties at her company.

"It is very awkward at the office following my first show. Everyone didn't really expect this now but I want to be like your Connie Ferguson and other media personalities who focus on many other things all at once ... and still manage to do a very good job."
