Faded motswako rapper Mo Molemi was arrested for assaulting his cousin two weeks ago.

Molemi, whose real name is Motlapele Morule, was arrested last Monday in Mmabatho, North West, for physically assaulting his cousin, a Sassa employee.

According to a witness close to the two, Molemi, 35, humiliated his cousin in front of colleagues at his workplace on March 3. "He assaulted his cousin Botsotso Morule at his workplace, the Sassa premises in Mmabatho, in front of security guards and his colleagues."

It is not yet clear what made Molemi attack his cousin.

He allegedly evaded spending the weekend in jail by skipping the Ramatlabama border into Botswana on Friday. "He then handed himself to the police on Monday where he was charged and released."

When contacted for comment, the Ratanang hit-maker declined to comment referring all questions to his lawyer Mothusi Marumo.

"I did appear in court. I don't know if I should be speaking to you about this thing because the matter between Botsotso and I is before the court. I don't think it's wise for me to be talking to journalists, but you can talk to my lawyer."

Marumo also declined to comment, saying: "I am not going to be talking about my client's affairs with you."

Botsotso was not available for comment as his phone rang unanswered.

North West police spokesman Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone said Molemi "was charged for common assault".

North West NPA spokesman Frank Lesenyego said the star will be back in court on May 9.

"He is out on warning."
