The Hawks Limpopo Anti-Corruption Unit has arrested a 32-year-old Modimolle Home Affairs official for corruption.
The suspect allegedly confiscated the passport of a foreign national during a joint operation between the SAPS‚ SARS and Home Affairs in Modimolle in January and then allegedly demanded R3‚000 from the complainant in order to get his passport back.
“The matter was reported to the Hawks and the entrapment was set and the suspect was arrested immediately after receiving the money he had demanded‚” said Hawks spokesperson Captain Matimba Maluleke.
The suspect would appear in the Modimolle Magistrate’s Court soon‚ Maluleke added.
