A rap spat that got out of hand has landed two rappers in court.

Emtee and Cruz Afrika threatened to beat each other up three weeks ago, with Cruz suggesting a boxing match between them.

Police spokesman Captain Jean Olckers confirmed Cruz had laid a charge of intimidation, and Emtee followed with a counterclaim at Midrand police station.

Yesterday, Emtee, whose real name is Mthembeni Ndevu, and Cruz, whose real name is Tshepo Modise, appeared in Edenvale Magistrate's Court.

The case was postponed to March 7 because Cruz's lawyer had other engagements.

At the weekend Emtee, famous for his Pearl Thusi hit, was embroiled in an incident with his record company Ambitiouz Entertainment, where artists left en masse.

Emtee said he would not join Fifi Cooper and the others who were leaving the company.

"I'm grateful to Ambitiouz for all they have done and I'm going to repay that loyalty by sticking around."
