He may have missed the Idols SA title by a whisker, but Thami Shobede has not wasted time moping about.

Shobede from Mtubatuba in KwaZulu-Natal, who is based in Johannesburg, said he planned to hit the ground running after Noma Khumalo of Pieter- maritzburg won the popular Mzansi Magic singing reality contest on Sunday. She beat him with some 50000 votes of about 14 million cast at the finale.

He said he was not focusing on the past but charging ahead to pursue his dream. "I'm okay, I'm taking it better than I thought I would. I think it's the pride of making it that far. I performed until there was nothing of me left to perform.

"My biggest letdown was realising that there's nothing a runner-up gets. The winner takes everything, that hurt me a little, but I will get over it."

Shobede is grateful of the support that carried him through the top 10 up to the finals at Carnival City in Brakpan.

"I don't have words for people who supported me, a simple thank you is not enough. They have been kind to me and still show me love, I see it in their eyes when they approach me ... the hugs and the selfies we take. Sometimes it gets overwhelming but I appreciate it."

As for his plans, he has cast his eyes on other platforms in addition to music. "I'm trying to force my way back into TV again. I spoke to a radio station as I would like to explore possibilities there too."

His fans will have to wait a little longer, as the contract for Idols stipulates that he has to release an album only after the winner has released hers. Khumalo is scheduled to release hers next month.

Shobede said: "The biggest thing I learnt from the show is who I am and who I could be. I have been very reserved, and I thought that my soul was at its best in my quietness as a singer, but the show transformed me and I became the loudest singer."
