By now it’s no secret that Fikile Mbalula is one of the funniest‚ snarkiest and sharpest people on Twitter. His acute understanding of the “cool kids” language and a keen interest in pop culture has earned him a number of titles from ‘Minister of Fun’ and ‘Minister of Beyoncé‚’ to ‘Minister of Twitter.’

And believe it or not‚ he does all the tweeting himself‚ “except after 12“.

During an interview on Real Talk with Anele‚ the minister‚ who is also known for his spicy clapbacks‚ explained that he only came out of his shell after being a victim of bullying on Twitter‚ which brought him to a revelation: “Twitter is not for the chicken-hearted“.

This thing was a one-night stand: Fikile Mbalula clears the air on sex scandal reports

“I was bullied. Twitter is for bullies. And then I was bullied when I came in. Actually at 10 000 followers‚ I switched it off‚ because I couldn’t stand the heat‚” he revealed.

“By the way‚ the story of Beyoncé when it broke out on Twitter‚ that I’m going to pay [her] 21 million -  I was not even on Twitter. I was being bullied there by all sorts of people — artists‚ and everybody was ill-informed‚ and I could not defend myself.”

However‚ after growing a thick skin‚ Fikile became one of the people that you don’t mess with on Twitter.

But apart from putting tweeps in their place‚ he also uses the social media platform for positive things.

“Twitter has provided me comfort to articulate what I believe in‚ quite correctly‚ and pick up fights‚ what is called twar... really based on self-defence‚ and clarifying issues that would have gone astray.

“It has also given me an opportunity to profile my work‚” he said.
