Actress Nokuthula Ledwaba has opened up about mending her relationship with her biological mother after she left her and her two older siblings when they were young‚ claiming that forgiving her “wasn’t easy“.

During an interview with DRUM‚ the Umlilo actress revealed that she only learnt that she was adopted when she was 10‚ however‚ it wasn’t until she was a teenager that she started feeling “the pain of rejection“.

“I was at the stage of my life when I started asking myself who I looked like and where my father was. At times‚ I would get angry that my mother left us. I battled with issues like. ‘The least you could have done is come see me or even call me‚ because we had a phone and I’m sure you had access to a phone‚’” she told the local publication.

When she turned 19‚ Nokuthula moved in with her biological mother in Soweto to pursue a career as an actress. She explained that while they often didn’t see eye to eye in the beginning‚ they were able to unpack their issues and managed to mend their relationship over time.

“It was a big adjustment for us — both my mother and me. The first year‚ we fought all the time‚ because she wasn’t forthcoming with the questions I had harboured all those years in my teens and drove me crazy. But over time‚ we got over it.”

In September 2013‚ Nokuthula announced on social media that she gave birth to a baby girl‚ Lewatle after keeping her pregnancy under the radar. And since then‚ it seems that the actress has enjoyed every minute of motherhood.
