WATCH: Pantsula dance goes viral

This pantsula video which was shared on Facebook has gone viral. The video which was posted on the social media platform by user Thato Pelezinho Hlaki has been shared more than 3000 times and has been viewed over a 100 000 times.

Pantsula dance is one of the oldest uniquely South African dances. It originated in the townships around the 1980's, pantsula is a dance form that consists of footwork, rhythm and beat.  Panstula dancers can be usually spotted wearing Converse All Stars, bucket  hats and often clashing colorful ensemble. Another popular outfit is that of the Converse sneakers and denim dungarees.

People are often fascinated by the fast footwork of the dancers and the often funny stories they tell with their highly energetic movements.

Pantsula is a firm favourite with  South African people and has even garnered attention intercontinentally.  In January this year the New York Times published a photo series featuring various dance crews.
