There are some fights that must be had, says Hlomla Dandala

It's no secret that actor Hlomla Dandala has never been shy to voice his opinion.

And that's not going to stop anytime soon.

Speaking to Anele Mdoda on Real Talk recently, Hlomla explained why it is important to be honest rather than nice.

"Be nice is the worst advice I have ever received because it forces you to lie. Don't be nice, be honest," he said.

The actor went on to rubbish the age-old habit of trying to stay away from a fight.

"Yes there are some fights that need to be avoided, but there are fights that must be had because, otherwise your children are going to have the fight for you," he explained.

The TV star went on to explain that it is important for people to fight for what they feel is right. "If you don't, you'll either have to deal with the situation later, or your kids will be left to deal with those fights," he added.

Hlomla also weighed in on the ongoing debate about artists in the country getting involved in politics.

He believes that it is absolute rubbish that artists can't have a political position.

"I don't understand South Africans today. When I was growing up, I knew about Apartheid from artists such as Hugh Masekela. I was five years old and I knew Nelson Mandela needed to be freed and that we were working towards a new South Africa. It was through art that I knew that."

Hlomla added that it's "nonsense" that artists can't take a political position these days.
