Omari Hardwick blown away by Nasty C

American actor and musician Omari Hardwick is a huge fan of SA hip-hop sensation Nasty C.

Hardwick told Sowetan that he planned to drop his debut album early next year and he would like to have the up-and-coming rapper featured. He added that he was also a fan of rapper AKA and dance star DJ Black Coffee.

Hardwick is currently in SA to shoot a summer campaign with local beer brand Castle Lite.

"I have an album coming up in March. I'm a poet as well, so the album is musical, it's some rap and some spoken word. Nas is hopefully going to be on it, Anthony Hamilton and Estelle Swaray - who has got African ancestry," Hardwick said.

"Now, the guy that I want to join me is this 19-year-old sensation Nasty C. This kid is incredibly gifted. I was put onto him last night and I was blown away. Black Coffee is brilliant as well, and then there is Wizkid - also talented. I'm very familiar with AKA too. I'm a music junkie. I always find new music."

The 42-year-old star is renowned for his role on American hit television crime drama Power, produced by rapper 50 Cent. He plays charming nightclub owner James St. Patrick, while at the same time being a major driving force in New York City's biggest illegal drug networks under the moniker Ghost.

Hardwick said he would be channelling an alternation between himself and his villainous on-screen persona in the upcoming commercial.

"I will be channelling James more than Ghost. I mean Ghost is cool as they come. I would imagine that James is the one that comes to mind when showing up in a club and distributing the liquor. But there is always going to be a bit of Ghost in everything when it comes to representing that character," Hardwick said.

"South Africans will relate to me more as Omari. An average to being a good actor is that there is never that much distance between a person and a character ."
