Nearly two years after rapper Kiernan Forbes‚ popularly known as AKA‚ released his Levels record‚ the album has officially gone platinum.

Talking to TMG Entertainment on Thursday‚ AKA confirmed that his second studio album had received platinum certification after selling over 40 000 copies. He also took to Twitter to make the announcement.

“Thanks to the fans and to all the people involved with the album. Going platinum is a big deal for me‚ especially since it’s my first album to go platinum and the first time an English-speaking hip-hop album has achieved it‚” he told TMG Entertainment.

AKA added that the achievement is made more special by the fact that he “did not give the album away or distribute copies as part of a marketing campaign.”

“This achievement doesn’t define me but it is nice to receive the recognition. It’s an honour‚” he added.

The achievement comes only days after the rapper’s latest single‚ Dream Work‚ was picked up by American rap veteran Snopp Dogg and after the star performed to a packed crowd at his dedicated SupaMega show in Zone 6‚ Soweto.
