Dube postpones birthday launch as she recuperates from surgery

Lilian Dube is “happy to be home”‚ but “disappointed” at having to postpone her 70th her birthday celebrations.

The veteran actress and producer‚ whose birthday on October 22 was to coincide with the launch of The Celebrities for Good Causes Foundation‚ is recuperating from recent mastectomy surgery.

“The surgery went well and I’m so happy to be home. I am disappointed to postpone my birthday celebrations and the launch of The Celebrities for Good Causes Foundation‚ but I have to make my health a priority‚” Dube said.

“I am feeling a lot better‚ but I am going to need a little more time to recover. As they say‚ ‘the show must go on’‚ and I will be now celebrating my 70th birthday later than planned. I’m so grateful for all the support I’ve received from my friends‚ colleagues‚ fans and the business partners throughout my recovery.”

Dube was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007 following a routine check-up..

She underwent chemotherapy and a successful procedure to remove the cancerous growth‚ and beat the disease on January 11‚ 2008. However‚ in September this year another lump was found and Dube underwent a single mastectomy

A new launch date for The Celebrities for Good Causes Foundation will be announced soon‚ with its inaugural initiative being The 70 000 National School Shoes Project.

This‚ Dube explained‚ “is just the beginning of what we intend to become an annual initiative under The Celebrities for Good Causes Foundation.

“The basis of the organisation is to encourage South African celebrities to utilise their positive influences and networks under one banner to better the lives of those in need.”

To assist in raising funds for the National School Shoes Project‚ SMS “School Shoes” to 38321 to donate R10 towards a pair of school shoes.
