Bruno Mars to produce sitcom

Bruno Mars is working on a comedy pilot for NBC with 'Empire' executive producer Brian Grazer and 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Prentice Penny.

The 'Uptown Funk' singer is working on a pilot for NBC with 'Empire' executive producer Brian Grazer and 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Prentice Penny. According to Deadline, ''the comedy follows a loud, boisterous, and quarrelsome family from the Bronx and what happens when they take in their wide-eyed, hopelessly optimistic 10 year old nephew''.

However, the show is not based on Bruno's life. Bruno, 30, is not the only musician working on a TV show, it was recently revealed that Nicki Minaj will star in a scripted comedy about her life.

The 32-year-old rapper, who was born in Trinidad and Tobago before moving to the U.S. as a child, said she ''couldn't be more proud'' after signing a deal to executive produce and appear in a new ABC Family series about growing up with her vibrant immigrant family in Queens, New York and her eventual rise to stardom.

The 'Anaconda' hitmaker, who studied acting at LaGuardia High School in New York City before opting to launch her successful career in the music industry, said: ''This is one of the more unique adventures I've ever embarked on. I couldn't be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special.''

A pilot episode for the currently untitled show will be filmed in her hometown later this year.
