Skeem Saam actors Cornet Mamabolo and Buhle Maseko are entangled in a feud with a popular entertainment joint.
Mamabolo, who plays Thabo Maputla in the SABC1 drama series, planned a national birthday tour under his events company, C& B, with Maseko, in conjunction with Kalawa Jazmee Records artist manager Sina Kololo.
On the day of the event at Industrial Shisanyama in Polokwane, the joint's management allegedly told the entertainers that the event was cancelled because "it was not marketed properly and only two people turned up".
Yesterday, Mamabolo claimed they spent R20000 collectively to book DJ Vetkuk vs Mahoota and to provide for their accommodation.
He said they were now taking legal action against the joint's management.
" We were on the way to Polokwane from work in Joburg when we were told of the cancellation. Our people at the venue told us the place was packed and they could not go in because of the long queue," said Mamabolo.
He said their agreement with Industrial was that they would pay for the entertainment and get all the money from the gate; Industrial would in turn make money from the bar. But Industrial denies this.
"Our people told us that those who went in paid R20 at the gate, but we saw someone complaining that he paid R150 to get in and was charged more to get into the VIP section," Mamabolo claimed.
Photos showed the staff had a busy night, with some cars not able to find parking. But the venue's management said the actors' birthday celebration was struck off their schedule anyway.
Kololo, who also manages DJ Vetkuk vs Mahoota, was blamed for the mix-up by the management of the drinking hole.
Industrial's branch manager Ntsoaki Hlagala said they cancelled the event in time and informed Kololo, but Kololo had failed to inform his business partners, C&B.
"On our side the problem was that the event was not well advertised. Normally when we do events, they must be advertised around two weeks before the day.
"Sina gave us posters on Wednesday or Thursday and the event was supposed to take place on Saturday.
"Another thing is that they wanted 100% of the takings at the gate. On top of that, they wanted us to book accommodation for their artists and give them free drinks at the venue," Hlagala said.
"They do not care if we make money or not, as long as they get their money.
"We're aware of their claims but we won't argue with them. We have a business to run."
