Maps Maponyane is set to host the second season of “I am South African” when it makes its return.

The show serves as a build-up for the sophomore South African of the Year (SATY) awards, billed as an annual initiative aimed at celebrating the outstanding contributions made by some of the country's brave as well as committed men and women.

Maps will appear in the 83-episode ANN7 TV show, profiling Mzansi’s leading artists, entrepreneurs, philanthropists, politicians and athletes as they share their unique stories with the rest of South Africa.

The highly anticipated hour-long show will debut at 6pm on Monday, 13 July 2015, airing Mondays to Saturdays on a weekly base.

Previously hosted by Hulisani Ravele, last season the show celebrated the theme "20 years of democracy". This year "unity in diversity” will be the main theme, promoting non-racialism and as an antidote to xenophobia.

“I look forward to uncovering great stories from some of South Africa's extraordinary people in our communities doing extraordinary things. With this show we will be telling inspirational real-life stories and sharing the journeys of the nominated personalities as well as challenges they faced to get where they are.” Maps explained in a statement.

“Some of these people sacrificed a lot to be where they are. More than anything, ‘I am South African’ is about promoting a narrative of positivity.”

The SATY awards will take place on October 17, 2015
