It's going to be like old times. Ngamla and Mawande are reunited - only they are different characters on a different show.

Menzi Ngubane, who played the powerful Ngamla in Generations, starts shooting on Ashes to Ashes, which stars Nambitha Mpumlwana, who played Mawande, Ngamla's true love.

The script is flipped as Ngubane plays good cop Nkonzo and Mpumlwana is Mandlakazi, the Namane matriarch on the e.tv telenovella. Ngubane told Sowetan: "It's good to be back, and I'm happy to be joining the family of Ashes to Ashes and reuniting with my old colleagues."

Matlapulana Ragoasha, general manager for communications at e.tv, confirmed Ngubane's latest move.

"We can confirm that Menzi will be joining Ashes to Ashes this month. The channel's priority is to provide viewers with fresh, high quality local shows. In order to realise this objective we constantly need to engage with the very best of local talent.

"Menzi is one of the best local actors and we are excited to have him on board."

Since the demise of Generations last year, Ngubane, who has been dogged by personal controversies, has been off the radar and this is a career comeback for him.
