Bianca le Grange has come a long way as an aspiring singer.

She gained national prominence as an 18-year-old, falling short of winning the inaugural Idols South Africa.

The musician and actress has had a busy schedule ever since.

She will lend her expertise as a judge to a new singing competition Rising Starz, which was launched on Friday.

"I have been a contestant, and I know what those who will be participating will be going through.

"They just have to find what sparks a light in them so that they can illuminate the world," said Le Grange.

The show will be based in Kimberley, Northern Cape.

Le Grange herself was born in Kimberley before settling down in Johannesburg.

She will work alongside accomplished jazz guitarist Selaelo Selota and vocal coach Gideon Linde as adjudicators.

The competition is open to aspiring singers from that province only.

"In the past, we have seen an exodus of talented youth trekking from Kimberley to Johannesburg like Idolscontestants Gail Nkoane, Crushanda Forbes and Lefa Pike, who all travelled thousands of kilometres to audition for various singing competitions and knock on the doors of opportunities," she said.

"It also worked for Tebogo "ProVerb" Thekisho, who hails from Kimberley but launched his career in Johannesburg."

The auditions for Rising Starz kick off in De Aar at the multi-purpose centre on May 6 before wrapping up in Mayibuye multi-purpose centre in Galeshewe on May 15.

After a selection process, the grand finale will be held in Kimberley on August 29.
