Cassper Nyovest showed his frustrations with the hosts of hip hop festival Back to the City by dropping the mic and walking off stage during a performance on Monday night.

The rapper performed a number of his hits, and while performing his last song, the stage manager signalled to him and his DJ that their time was up. Wanting to please the fans, Cassper's DJ delayed the start of the song by getting the crowd excited with the heavy beat. The crowd booed the hosts who tried to quell the situation.

Cassper walked off stage fuming, leaving DJ Capital, who was next in line to play, stunned.

The rapper appeared to have issues. In one of the songs he swore at the SA Music Awards.

Despite the antics, his performance was breathtaking. His dance moves left youngsters screaming for more.

With his head seemingly in a better place, the rapper went onto Twitter yesterday with a peace flag saying "#BTTC2015 has the best hip hop crowd all year long. I guess that's why it's sooooo hard to keep to 15mins exact. It's electrifying!!!"

But he also didn't hide his disappointment. "I was performing my last song and I was cut, at 15 mins. Seconds over my set. Then I stayed and I timed everyone else's performances. Kwesta did 16.30 and Reason did 22.60. They both never had their sound cut and I thought to myself, kante what's different with me?"

Yesterday, Cassper did not reply to queries from the Sowetan.

The festival is in its ninth year and attracted throngs of hip hop fans to the Newtown precinct. The revellers created clouds of smoke as they puffed dagga freely and guzzled alcohol.

Other performers were Skwatta Kamp, who gave a warm tribute to their late member, Flabba. The four members, Slikour, Shugasmackx, Nish and Bozza looked incomplete without three of their other members, which was a perhaps a signal for a chapter that needs closure.

KO's first performance was entertaining, even though he looked and sounded like he was miming.

The crowd also enjoyed Khuli Chana's performance, while Ricky Rick gave a rousing show along with boy band Jam Session.

Digital maskandi artist Mashayabhuqe ka Mamba, the artist handpicked by Thandiswa Mazwai for collaboration, also performed his unique sounds.

The organiser Osmic could not be reached for comment.
