SABC1 soap opera Generations: The Legacy intends to fire one of its own but the bizarre twist is that the actress is unaware.

The soapie, which made its return to the small screen in December after a short break, apparently intends to terminate the contract of actress Asanda Foji.

According to sources at the show, producers want to show Foji the door because she has not cracked her role of the submissive and meek Simphiwe, a rural girl who comes to Johannesburg and is engaged to Mazwi Moroka (played by Musa Ngema), who has just joined the wealthy and powerful family as their long lost son.

Sowetan has reliably learnt that the production team, including the show's executive producer Mfundi Vundla, are not pleased with her acting.

"The producers thought that by now she would have showed signs that she can crack the role. They have realised that the role is too big for her," said a member of the team, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

When contacted for comment, Foji said she was unaware of the plans to get rid of her.

"I don't know anything like that. Right now I am very shocked."

Vundla would not confirm their plans to fire Foji. "It is just rumours and I don't entertain them, " he said.

When the young actress from King William's Town joined the soapie in November she had no television acting experience. She comes from a modelling background.
