Sister says singer must apologise to family for killing brother
AFTER serving six years in prison and coming out a changed man, R&B singer Leonard Moloi, formerly with Denim, says he does not have the courage to apologise to the family of the man he killed.
Moloi, pictured, shot and killed David Manchu outside The Rock nightclub in Rockville, Soweto, in 2006. He was released in 2012.
"I don't think I have the guts to face the family. I have not approached them [and it looks like] I am being arrogant, but I need courage to do that," he said.
In an interview published in Sowetan last week, Moloi revealed that, while he was in jail, he wrote a letter in which he apologised to the nation and to the family for "accidentally" shooting Manchu.
The letter was published in Daily Sun on November 30 2007, and he has not been in contact with the Manchus since.
Kedibone Manchu, David's sister, said the family was hurt by Moloi's statement in Sowetan last week that he had apologised to them.
She said that she never saw the published letter [in Daily Sun].
She criticised Moloi for relying on the media to convey the message of apology instead of directing it to them.
Manchu said her mother visited the families of all the people accused of killing her son and extended an olive branch to them.
"That is why, as a family, we expected that Leonard would do the same and come to us physically and apologise.
"We have forgiven him, and we do meet on the street and greet each other. As someone who has a conscience, he needs to do the right thing," Manchu said.
