Talented singer Lulu Dikana has passed away

The singer who was the older sister of X Factor judge and songstress Zonke Dikana is said to have died after a short illness.

Dikana’s manager at Sony Music Entertainment confirmed the news earlier today.

"It is with deep sadness that we announce the unexpected and tragic loss of soul songstress Lulu Dikana who passed away last night after a short illness while being treated in hospital.  Our deepest condolences go out to her family, friends and all her fans who came to know and love her through her music," a statement released by the company said.

A formal statement will be released later today.

The soulful jazz singer had recently launched her new album 'I Came to Love' and was currently in the process of promoting it with various shows.

She also opened the Joburg shows for US R&B singer John Legend during his ‘All of me’ tour.

Dikana who was scheduled to perform at Skyroomlive in Braamfontein on 5 December was forced to cancel her show after falling ill.

Judging from her sister Zonke’s tweet posted on the 2nd of December: “That moment when you r visiting a hospital then your song suddenly plays in the hospital waiting area” – it seems Lulu Dikana had been in hospital for a couple of days.

The loss of Lulu comes after the two siblings lost their older sister Busisiwe Dikana last year in May. The cause of death was not disclosed.

Their father Vuyisile ‘Viva” Dikana, who was a respected jazz drummer died in 2009.
