The hottest MC list released by MTV Base is not a true reflection of the South African hip hop sphere; these were views of the local MC Reason.

Reason said that he believes the list does not speak to him as an MC. This comes after MTV Base placed him as the 6th hottest MC in the country.

Speaking to Sowetan LIVE at the launch of his second album Audio High Definition, Reason said he believes he is the hottest rapper and MC in the country because he is one of the few rappers that still cares about writing.

"I think it's a reflection, I don't know if it's a true reflection.

"I disagree with the list in a sense that I believe I'm top five and I dropped the freestyle to mainly ask what it takes to be top five. Does it mean I have to come up with a Kwaito song and invent a dance?" asked Reason.

He said that he does not understand how MTV Base came up with the list but if it was based on lyricism he should have been named the hottest MC or at least the second hottest.

"I found the list very interesting, very funny. I think I found the whole debates very funny. I expected different results but it's one of those situations I can't be emotional over. It's only TV you know," said Reason.

Responding to questions about the long wait before releasing his second album, Reason said that he felt the need to wait because he wanted to give his fans quality and not just quantity.

"We were supposed to have released last year December but it didn't sound this good. So we kind of took some time out to shape it and map it but I think it had a lot to do with quality control," he said.

He said the album was initially an 18 track album but narrowed it down to 13 tracks plus a bonus track.

Featured on one of the bangers in the album on the opening track called 'GaaaAHDbody', Tumi from Tumi and The Volume said that he believes Reason has matured in his music and has now released a greater album as compared to his previous one.

"Reason's Audio HD album is incredible; I think it's a real credit to the man's craftsmanship and skill. It's a beautiful album.

"It’s important when you've had really good success with your previous album to try and really repeat it. With him, the level of the sound and the quality of song writing is really beautiful," said Tumi.

Talking about the MTV Base hottest MC list which he was not listed in, Tumi says he thinks the list is respectable but he would have put Reason a bit higher.

"But I think it's also very important to understand that that list is an MTV Base list. They curated it, they put that thing together. You always have to look at it through that lens," said Tumi.

Like Cassper Nyovest's album Tsholofelo, Reason said that he is also aiming at selling gold and eventually go for platinum but said they are not putting a timeframe on it.
